8. Arauzona – archaeological site

In the area of today's Vodice and its surroundings, there existed an ancient settlement named Arauzona, mentioned in various classical sources. It belonged to the wider area of the Roman municipium Rider, whose center was located in the nearby village of Danilo. 

Numerous remains of Roman buildings, aqueducts, graves, and everyday objects have been found throughout the Vodice region, with one of the most important archaeological sites related to Arauzona located near the Church of the Holy Cross. These findings point to a developed and organized life during the Roman Empire. Systematic archaeological research is still ongoing, and the discoveries made so far confirm the significance of this area in the region's history.
