The village of Rakitnica was first mentioned in 1311, and today the remains of former houses and dry-stone walls can still be seen. The local church of St. John the Baptist, located near the village, was built in 1445, the same year the parish of Rakitnica was established. Mass is celebrated there three times a year: on May 1st (Feast of St. Joseph the Worker), on June 24th (Nativity of St. John the Baptist), and on August 29th (Beheading of St. John the Baptist).
